High-Voltage Safety & Systems
High-voltage fundamentals, PPE, isolation, lockout/tagout, HVIL, battery systems, qualified-person concepts, and safe diagnostic practices.
Practical transit maintenance training and technical assistance for hybrid-electric, battery-electric, high-voltage, electrical, CAN/J1939, and advanced vehicle systems.
JBC Technical Services focuses on practical diagnostics, safe work practices, system understanding, and root-cause troubleshooting for advanced transit vehicle fleets.
High-voltage fundamentals, PPE, isolation, lockout/tagout, HVIL, battery systems, qualified-person concepts, and safe diagnostic practices.
Batteries, BMS, DC/DC conversion, traction inverters, AC propulsion motors, regenerative braking, charging, thermal management, and system controls.
Network topology, voltage and resistance checks, message interpretation, missing heartbeats, wiring faults, module isolation, and CAN-analysis tools.
Energy storage, inverters, traction machines, regenerative braking, cooling, controls, and structured fault isolation for hybrid transit buses.
Voltage drop, loaded-circuit testing, grounds, reference circuits, sensors, relays, power distribution, schematics, and intermittent faults.
Remote or on-site support for difficult fleet problems, fault-code review, data interpretation, test planning, technician coaching, and diagnostic strategy.
JBC Technical Services is built around real-world fleet maintenance experience—from the technician level through executive fleet leadership, engineering, training, advanced propulsion, and battery-electric bus deployment.
Joseph Cheney's career began as a transit bus technician and progressed through foreman, director-level maintenance and engineering leadership, and deputy director responsibilities. That experience shapes JBC's training philosophy: technicians learn best when instruction connects system theory to actual vehicle symptoms, schematics, measurements, data, and repair decisions.
His background includes large transit fleets, battery-electric and hybrid bus programs, high-voltage energy storage systems, traction inverters and motors, reliability-centered maintenance, technician workforce development, new-vehicle procurement and commissioning, maintenance facility projects, and the development of in-house component repair capabilities.
Built a hands-on foundation in preventive maintenance, brakes, steering, suspension, diesel engines, transmissions, HVAC, low- and high-voltage electrical systems, CAN networks, hybrid systems, and electric propulsion diagnostics.
Directed maintenance activities, complex repairs, quality control, technician performance, training needs, safety activities, and testing/evaluation of new products and technologies.
Led maintenance for a large multi-facility transit fleet, managed major operating and capital programs, directed technician training and engineering support, and participated in major bus, facility, CNG, dual-mode electric, and hydrogen projects.
Oversees fleet maintenance programs, regulatory compliance, preventive maintenance, technician development, reliability improvement, hybrid component overhaul, high-voltage battery repair, and battery-electric bus deployment.
JBC training is designed around repeatable troubleshooting habits technicians can use after the class ends.
Understand architecture, operating states, energy flow, network relationships, permissions, interlocks, and failure modes before testing.
Use schematics, DMM measurements, fault codes, live data, CAN information, voltage drop, current, and insulation/isolation information appropriately.
Develop a logical test plan, distinguish primary from secondary faults, confirm the failure, verify the repair, and document the evidence.
“Training is organized around the same schematics, measurements, software, and fault information technicians use in the shop.”
“Courses can be adapted to the customer's vehicle configuration, technician experience, diagnostic tools, and operational needs.”
“The goal is to develop a repeatable diagnostic process so technicians can prove faults instead of replacing parts by guesswork.”
Yes. Course content can be tailored around your vehicle platforms, propulsion systems, technician skill levels, diagnostic equipment, common failures, and operating environment.
Yes. JBC can provide on-site instructor-led training using customer vehicles, components, schematics, service information, and shop equipment where appropriate.
Yes. Technical assistance can include fault-code review, system-state analysis, electrical and network test planning, CAN/J1939 data interpretation, and technician coaching.
JBC training can support an employer's qualification process, but course completion by itself does not grant OEM authorization or automatically establish employer-designated high-voltage qualification.
Describe the vehicle platform, technical issue, training objective, class size, and preferred location. JBC can develop a training or support approach around your needs.
